Over the weekend, Manny Machado announced that he will be opting out of the rest of his five year $150 million contract next year leaving fans devastated and disrespected. Throughout the past five years, Machado has played a huge role in the Padres line up and the best third basemen that we’ve ever had. During Machado’s career, he has been nominated to the MLB Allstar game six times and won two Gold Glove Awards. Personally, I don’t think Machado wanting to opt out of his contract as being greedy because the market has gone up significantly since he signed with the Padres five years ago. For example, Aaron Judge singed a $380 million contract with the New York Yankees during this past offseason. We can’t blame Machado for wanting to test free agency getting the money he deserves because of his talent on the field. Although Machado is planing to opt out of contract, there is a slight possibility that the Padres will be able to talk to him about staying with the team and retiring as a Padre. Instead of focusing on what is going on next season, Padres fans should be preparing for an exciting season ahead of them with all of the new players we received during the off season along with Fernando Tatis JR that will be joining the team in April.
