Padres Clinch Playoffs

Last night was one of the best nights for the San Diego Padres as they defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers securing a spot in the playoffs.

During the game, Michael King, who is a pitcher for the Padres pitched through the fifth inning allowing three hits including a double to Mookie Betts. Landon Knack, who is a pitcher for the Dodgers threw until the fourth inning allowing five hits to the Padres including a two run home run to Jake Cronenworth in the second inning. For the rest of the game, the Padres bullpen did incredible allowing three hits and no runs to the Dodgers that was exciting for fans to watch at home. In the ninth inning, Robert Suarez, who is a pitcher for the Padres struggled giving up three hits to the dodgers including a single to Enrique Hernández. Then, Manny Machado who is a third baseman for the Padres saved the game getting a triple play from third base all the way to first base with two players on base for the Dodgers.

After watching the game, it was surreal to see how far the Padres have come this season with everyone lifting each other up and got emotional seeing Machado make that play in the ninth inning because the Dodgers had a chance to win the game. Looking at the Padres roster, it’s difficult to see who the best player on the team because everyone has stepped out of their comfort zones at some point this year and proud of all the players for playing as a team.

Breaking down scenarios

If the Padres win tonight against the Dodgers, they will have a chance to win the National League West Division and will be in the National League division series starting on Oct. 5th. This is defiantly the best case for the Padres but if they loose, they will hold the number four seed hosting the National League Wild Card series against three different teams competing for the number five seed starting Oct.1st through Oct. 3rd.

Best of luck to the Padres for the rest of the season heading into the Playoffs and will see you next week in San Diego.

Sincerely, Taylor Leonard author of Beyond the Bases
