Unfortunately, the San Diego Padres had to make a difficult decision and release Pitching coach Larry Rothschild. Jace Tingler, manager for the Padres, was concerned about the lack of consistency from the pitching staff, so he thought it would be best to release Rothschild. He has been a part of the Padres organization for the past 2 years and has lots of experience being a pitching coach. Previously, Rothschild spent 18 years as a pitching coach for the New York Yankees and Chicago Cubs. He has brought an abundance of knowledge to the team and was a great leader for our pitching staff. The pitchers have learned the importance of winning games and how to pitch successfully from his experience. He will be dearly missed from the Padres organization and his impact on the pitching staff will continue making our team stronger. During the transition, Ben Fritz will take over his position giving the players a new voice and hopefully cure the lack of inconsistency. Personally, Rothschild should have stayed with the team, he was a great mentor for the bullpen and his intelligence made our team stronger. Best of luck Fritz, we sure need someone who will improve our bullpen and help starting pitchers play to their potential.
