Unfortunately, Major League Baseball is currently under a lockout between the Players Association and the owners of baseball due to the Collective Bargaining Agreement. On December 1st, Rob Manfred, the owner of the MLB sent out a letter stating that since the MLBPA and MLB couldn’t agree on players salaries to extend the CBA, MLB will have to go into lockout until they can come to an agreement. As of this week, the MLBPA and MLB are going to meet for the first time in six weeks to discuss how much longer the lockout will be and hopefully extend the CBA. Throughout the past month, players have not been able to practice with teammates and trading has been put on pause until the lockout is over. Since the lockout is happening during offseason, a deal has to be made between the MLBPA and MLB in order to resume before spring training and opening day. Personally, I’m glad the lockout is happening during the offseason because it doesn’t affect spring training and opening day which are my favorite things to attend. My dad and I have been going to spring training in Peoria to watch the Padres for the past two years and I would be bummed if it was cancelled. Hopefully the MLBPA and MLB can come to an agreement before baseball season starts so that fans can enjoy watching the games.
